Developers are excited about Avalon and XAML, but right now it seems like an all or nothing proposition of re-engineering your application from scratch. This doesn't have to be the case and there are easy ways to begin using XAML now. From the description:

“Avalon and XAML bring two powerful new tools to the table for software development, but that doesn't mean you need to re-engineer your existing application from scratch to take advantage of them. In this talk, we explore how to extend existing Windows Forms applications in a declarative world, the "future-proofing" benefits for doing so, and how to avoid some pitfalls along the way. Attendees will leave this talk understanding good places to consider using XAML in their existing applications, and techniques for doing so.”

Here is a listing of all sessions. It's a fantastic group of people speaking and well worth the time. We hope to see you there!

Avalon Now Open to Public

<trackback:ping>http://muschenetz.com/ingo/services/trackbacks/151.aspx</trackback:ping>

Microsoft has made the November CTP of Avalon available to the general public. Previously it was only available to MSDN subscribers. Download the newest version here. It's exciting to see XAML and Avalon get a wider audience and Microsoft is actively encouraging public feedback to help shape future versions of the framework.

In order to avoid confusion, this version only works on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, not Longhorn. More information on any installation issues can be found on the Avalon newsgroups.

Xamlon Releases PocketPC Beta 2

<trackback:ping>http://muschenetz.com/ingo/services/trackbacks/148.aspx</trackback:ping>

We've just released a new beta of our PocketPC/Windows CE product. The major feature upgrade here is being able to use vector graphics as part of your XAML file. By default, the Compact Framework has a small subset of System.Drawing, and we've extended that functionality to enable familiar graphics like the Avalon shield (notice the gradients) to be done declaratively:

There's much more than just vector graphics, but with this release, it finally starts to become easier to develop dynamic, great-looking PocketPC applications. Download Here!
